season 2 is having a blast building up its new serial killer rivals for Dexter Morgan.

With production underway for Dexter: Resurrection season 2, which brings back Michael C. Hall as elusive serial killer Dexter Morgan, the series has gradually begun to announce new cast members and characters joining the next outing. In addition to Brian Cox as the next big bad, Don Framt/The New York Ripper, Dan Stevens has been confirmed to , another brutal serial killer in New York City.

Though The New York Ripper was heavily teased throughout season 1, details about The Five Borough Killer are still largely under wraps other than what his murderous nickname implies. Additionally, it's been revealed that Stevens' character is known for taunting the police with phone calls threatening to murder innocent people, which he ultimately follows through with.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for AMC's The Terror: Devil in Silver, Dan Stevens addressed the frustrations of having to be so tight-lipped about his mysterious new Dexter character. Teasing the "fun" that he and the creative team are having building The Five Borough Killer, Stevens also expressed how "honored" he is to be joining the ranks with Cox and Uma Thurman:

ScreenRant: I'm so thrilled you're joining Dexter: Resurrection season 2. The killers in that show always have such unique personalities that are outwardly displayed. What are you allowed to tease about what The Five Borough Killer is going to be like in this season?

Dan Stevens: "Oh gosh, so little. It's frustrating, but we are having great fun building that character. It's an incredible team that have been working with this world for so long. So, I'm very honored to be stepping in there and joining the ranks of Brian Cox and Uma Thurman and Michael this season. Yeah, it's really exciting. It's really fun."

Each season of Dexter since the franchise's inception has seen the titular figure hunt multiple serial killers or repeat criminals alongside an overarching big bad, and it seems Stevens' Five Borough Killer will likely be an earlier target before taking down Cox's New York Ripper. In Dexter: Resurrection season 1, Hall's character either killed or helped apprehend serial killers like Krysten Ritter's Lady Vengeance, Neil Patrick Harris' Tattoo Collector, David Dastmalchian's Gemini Killer(s), and Marc Menchaca's Dark Passenger before facing Peter Dinklage's villainous Leon Prater.

With Stevens pointing out "joining the ranks" of Uma Thurman in season 2, it wouldn't be surprising if her Charley Brown was involved in aiding Dexter hunting down The Five Borough Killer. Throughout season 1, Charley was Leon's right hand who kept tabs on, checked in and coordinated with, and even killed, if need be, those in Prater's serial killer "club." Dexter took numerous files on killers from Prater's vault in , but Charley could come in handy tracking down the more elusive former members.

In addition to Stevens and Cox, the newcomers in Dexter: Resurrection season 2's cast include Bokeem Woodbine as the NYPD homicide division's Captain Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as his daughter, officer-in-training Fiona Mixon. Hunting down the killers this season on behalf of law enforcement will also be returning stars Kadia Saraf and Dominic Fumusa as Detectives Wallace and Oliva, respectively.

Filming is still in early stages in New York City, but the Showtime series' sophomore outing has already secured a 2026 release window from Paramount+. While an exact release date has yet to be confirmed by the streamer, showrunner Clyde Phillips has previously indicated an October 2026 premiere for Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
