It has been officially confirmed that Grown Ups 3 is on the way, and here's everything we know so far about Adam Sandler's return. The first Grown Ups hit theaters all the way back in 2010, and stars Sandler and his usual on-screen pals as a group of immature men who reunite decades after they played together on a basketball team.
Though the film's low-brow humor and intentionally juvenile jokes were unpopular with critics, Grown Ups made a killing at the box office with $271 million. A sequel arrived three years later, and Grown Ups 2 saw the same box office success as its predecessor. Despite dropping two smash-hits in a row, plans for Grown Ups 3 stalled. Sandler went on to other projects, and the threequel seemed dead.
Sandler's hesitance to make sequels is well-documented, but the legendary funnyman has seemingly changed his tune in recent years. hit Netflix back in 2026, sparking hopes that the SNL alum and Golden Globe nominee might come back to make more sequels to his most popular hits. Nevertheless, Grown Ups 3 remained in limbo.
That is until now, when it has been confirmed that the third installment in the blockbuster comedy franchise is finally going to happen. Though details are scant at the moment, what is known paints a pretty exciting picture. The open-ended nature of the Grown Ups series means nearly anything can happen, and any beloved cast member could return for more raunchy antics.
Netflix Has Confirmed That Grown Ups 3 Is Happening
Grown Ups 3 has been one of those massive rumored projects for more than a decade, but Netflix has finally made a concrete announcement after years of radio silence. The streamer has confirmed that the Adam Sandler threequel is in the works, though little else was revealed in the process. It will be the next project in Sandler's ongoing partnership with the streamer.
Besides Sandler, who will star and act as producer, Grown Ups 3 also has a director attached. Kyle Newacheck has been tapped to helm the comedy sequel, and he has previously worked with Sandler on the first Murder Mystery as well as Happy Gilmore 2 last year. Frequent collaborator Tim Herlihy will co-write the script to Grown Ups 3 with Sandler. Herlihy's pen graced most of Sandler's classics, including The Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore.
It is unclear if the rest of the cast of the first two Grown Ups films will also return, though it seems unlikely the project would move forward without them. Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider comprised the rest of the main cast of Grown Ups, with only . The popularity and pull of a third film may entice the original gang to reprise their roles.
If Happy Gilmore 2 is any indication, it's also highly likely that Grown Ups 3 will feature a ton of new stars and celebrity cameos. Netflix has never shied away from star-power in their Adam Sandler vehicles, and a prestigious project like Grown Ups 3 could have an even more star-studded ensemble. As yet, no release timeline is known.
Is Netflix The Right Place For Grown Ups 3?
Perhaps the only dark cloud hanging over the announcement of Grown Ups 3 is the fact that it will release on Netflix. Such a blockbuster sequel has a lot of box office potential, and it seems like a waste to simply dump it on streaming. The first two movies combined for more than half a billion dollars, and the threequel could do just as well under the right circumstances.
have been okay, but it seems like streaming has been used as an excuse to put less effort into projects. Grown Ups was never a masterpiece, but there was obvious care put into the first film. It would be a shame to have fans wait nearly 15 years for Grown Ups 3, only for the final product to be yet another disposable streaming flick.
