If Destruction Be Our Lot Teases the Upcoming Robot Apocalypse With All-Star Cover Art

If Destruction Be Our Lot (2026) Variant Covers by Jerome Opeña & Neeraj Menon; James Harren; and Tradd Moore

The official synopsis for If Destruction Be Our Lot teases a world where humanity is extinct, leaving only the robots that once served them. Most robots are content to carry out their tasks without oversight, but Abe, a robotic replica of Abraham Lincoln, is different.

The story follows Abe as he sets out to explore the Earth, searching for something beyond the monotony of his programmed existence. His ultimate goal is to find meaning, even if it costs him his life. If that premise doesn’t capture the imagination of sci-fi fans, the series’ striking cover art is sure to grab attention.

Image Comics has exclusively shared with Screen Rant the stunning covers created by an all-star lineup including Jerome Opeña, Neeraj Menon, James Harren, Tradd Moore, Martín Morazzo, Chris O’Halloran, Cliff Chiang, and Tula Lotay. These eye-catching covers offer a glimpse of the series’ imaginative world, with even more designs teased to come.

More covers coming soon for If Destruction Be Our Lot by Andy MacDonald & Francesco Segala, and a Sex Criminals homage by Chip Zdarsky.

Beyond the official synopsis, an shares insights from the creators about what readers can expect from the series. Mark Rosenberg explains that at its heart, the story explores the universal theme of friendship (even if that friendship comes from a talking toaster). The full comments from the creative team are included below:

Mark Rosenberg: As someone coming into comics from the film industry, I’ve been dazzled by the creative possibilities. And we're making something that feels important to us because it deals with real issues through a totally bizarre metaphor, but in the end it’s all about the search for one primal, universal thing: friendship. Even if it’s only with a talking toaster.

Matthew Rosenberg: This is a story I've wanted to tell for a long time. But working on it for the last few years it has really become something so much bigger, funnier, sadder, weirder, and more hopeful than I ever could have dreamt. And getting to make it with two of my favorite old collaborators, Andy, and Hassan, one of my favorite new collaborators, Francesco, and my favorite brother, Mark, has been one of the highlights of my career.

Andy Macdonald: My hatred of A.I. is matched only by my love for weird little robots. So getting to make a comic about a weird guy looking for meaning in a world that has left him behind is both prescient and incredibly fun. I can't wait for people to enter our world of lonely robots.

Based on the creative team’s passionate insights, the tantalizing synopsis, and the striking cover art, it’s clear that If Destruction Be Our Lot will bring something fresh and exciting to the sci-fi genre. This story of a post-apocalyptic world run by robots feels especially relevant in today’s rapidly advancing AI landscape. So, if you’re a fan of inventive, action-packed sci-fi, mark May 6 on your calendar as this series is poised to impress.
