Despite having a rocky start due to EA's reliance on microtransactions, the nearly decade-long absence since the release of has been more than a little excruciating for fans of the series, given how much potential the series still has to offer. Thankfully, while the conversation around the release of Battlefront 3 has been over the years, fans are being treated to a brand-new release in the coming weeks.
Offering heaps of new content for fans of the Battlefront series, some recent social media announcements are hyping up a plethora of fans for an exciting new Battlefront project to look forward to this May, which you can enjoy entirely for free.
Star Wars Battlefront Resurgence Is Coming
While it might not be the official sequel that we've been hoping for, according to KYBER Community Manager on Reddit, the Battlefront 2 modding scene is getting another massive player event titled Battlefront Resurgence 2026. The new event is an addition to the Battlefront+ modding project, which is the closest we've gotten to a , and the creators are rallying for support in the wake of the new content updates.

Battlefront+ and all of its mods are fully compatible with KYBER's multiplayer servers, allowing you to experience the content online as if it were an official expansion.
Although we only have a few teases for the additions to Battlefield+, like a Riot Trooper class rework, several new spaceships, and skins for iconic characters like the Mandalorian, the creators have teased that KYBER will also be adding squad support and AFK timers alongside the new updates in May.
Star Wars Battlefront Fans Are Ready To Return

Unfortunately, while console players can still take advantage of the increased player count, they won't have access to any of the modded content added through Battlefront+ on PC. Still, given that the previous year's resurgence was able to pull together over 100 thousand players back into Battlefront 2, it's an exciting event to keep on your radar.
The creators are currently aiming to break their previous record with 150 thousand players in attendance. Hopefully, there's a chance the event could even show EA that Battlefield 2 and the shooter series as a whole have more than enough support to make it wort revisiting in the future.
