There has never been a better time to look into PC gaming than right now, and you can thank for that. In the wake of the company's Steam Machine announcement, video game lovers have kept a close eye on the impending console. The release of the Steam Machine will not only make PC gaming more accessible, but it will streamline Valve's connection to gamers across the globe. Before any of this can happen, however, the Steam Machine needs a release date. And if a new report is right, then we may get a sweet update soon.

The only bad part? You will need to start saving for the console ASAP. If the , so the upcoming console might eat up all your tax return this year. Sorry about that.

Valve has been close-lipped about the release date of the . The issue, of course, has been because of market fluctuations. The global supply chain is short on RAM components, meaning it is seriously expensive to buy storage for PCs right now. With prices soaring on RAM, the Steam Machine's overall cost would be prohibitively expensive right now, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Princes on RAM are dropping globally, making the console's release more feasible, and a new SteamOS Beta update is now fueling debut rumors.

After all, the latest update to SteamOS includes a simple note in its change log: “Initial support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware." No specific details about the console are given in this blurb, but fans are now buzzing (via ). This note marks the first time a SteamOS update has outright mentioned the Steam Machine by name, leaving fans convinced an update on the console is imminent. This note also dropped shortly after reports revealed Valve is now receiving large shipments of "Wireless PC Controllers", so you can put two and two together.

As hype surrounding the Steam Machine grows, fans are now revisiting speculation on the console's price. Valve has not said anything official about the console's cost, but given its need to compete with PCs, the Steam Machine will certainly cost a pretty penny. Shortly after the console was announced, market experts for the base model while upgraded models could cost well over $1,000 USD.

Of course, these forecasts did not account for the rise in RAM prices. Components for RAM storage are a premium right now as AI infrastructure needs RAM and a lot of it. The cost of storage is up nearly 200% year over year, a fact that could double the pricing on the Steam Machine. With prices on RAM now going down globally, the Steam Machine will hopefully land a reasonable price point. After all, the new-gen console is meant to meet gamers midway by acting as an entry point to PC gaming. If it costs more than a laptop with equivalent specs, Valve will have a hard time selling fans on the console.
