Netflix has an interesting catalog of superhero content, especially TV shows, and among them is a 10-part show that brings together the best elements of The Boys and The Umbrella Academy. Thanks to its original TV shows that have covered a variety of genres, Netflix now has various titles among . However, Netflix has also become known for canceling great shows too early.

While some due to low viewership and/or production costs, others didn’t deserve to end so early. Shows like Warrior Nun were infamously canceled too quickly despite their success and solid fanbase, and the same fate was given to in 2026. Created by Shelley Eriksen and Dennis Heston, The Imperfects was released on Netflix in November 2026.

All 10 episodes of The Imperfects were released at once, making it a great show to binge-watch, but it failed to reach the desired viewership numbers that could justify the show’s production costs. As a result, The Imperfects was canceled, leaving it inconclusive and on a cliffhanger that won’t be resolved. However, despite its unfair fate, The Imperfects is one of Netflix’s best superhero shows, and it boosted the career of one of the streamer’s biggest stars.

The Imperfects Is One Of The Most Original Superhero Shows Of The Decade

The Imperfects follows Tilda (Morgan Taylor Campbell), the vocalist in a punk rock band; Juan (Iñaki Godoy), a comic book artist; and Abbi (Rhianna Jagpal), a genetics student. Although they have completely different personalities, jobs, and lifestyles, they are linked through one very specific but important detail: they all have monstrous powers as a result of an experimental gene therapy by Dr. Alex Sarkov (Rhys Nicholson).

Tilda is a banshee, Juan is a chupacabras, and Abbi is a succubus, and they team up to go after Sarkov in hopes of forcing him to make them human again. Of course, their mission is a lot easier said than done, and they come across various challenges that put them (and their powers) to the test, but they also meet an ally in Dr. Sydney Burke (Italia Ricci), who is also Sarkov’s former partner.

The Imperfects is a brilliant blend of fantasy, sci-fi, horror, action, and all the best elements of a superhero story. The Imperfects is like The Boys in terms of action and being a dark take on superpowered characters, through which it explores the struggles and not-so-heroic consequences of their existence.

The Imperfects also takes a lot from another dark superhero TV show from Netflix: The Umbrella Academy. The Imperfects is similar to it as it also has main characters who obtained their superpowers from a shady source, with horrible consequences. However, The Imperfects stands out from The Boys, The Umbrella Academy, and other modern dark superhero stories thanks to its horror elements, most notably its use of legendary creatures like a chupacabras, a banshee, and a succubus.

The Imperfects made it to the growing list of Netflix shows that were canceled too soon and that have, unfortunately, faded into obscurity, but it left its mark in one huge way. The Imperfects’ Juan Ruiz was the breakout role of Iñaki Godoy, who is now one of Netflix’s biggest stars thanks to his performance as Monkey D. Luffy in the live-action adaptation of One Piece.

The Imperfects was Godoy’s first English-language project, and it was key to launching his career internationally. Just one year after it, Godoy was cast as Luffy, and One Piece quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest and most popular shows of the decade. At the time of writing, , titled The Battle of Alabasta, projected for a 2027 release.

Although The Imperfects joined a group of Netflix shows that no project would like to be a part of, it was key to the success of One Piece, as without it, the latter show might not have found its perfect lead. The Imperfects is a must-watch for fans of superhero TV shows, as it’s unlike most, and one advantage of its early cancellation is that it’s a bingeable show.
