New Pirate Series Adaptation: Oyelowo and Star-Studded Cast Revealed
Apple TV+ has announced the development of a new six-episode series inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's iconic adventure tale Treasure Island. Filming has concluded, with MGM+ sharing a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the cast's excitement as they wrap production.
The clip features Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Jack Huston, and others celebrating the completion of principal photography, with Atwell declaring, "And that's a wrap!" The footage also highlights costume designs, set construction, and the iconic pirate ship central to the story.
While no premiere date has been confirmed, MGM+ hinted the series will debut "coming soon" on their platform. Oyelowo takes on the role of Long John Silver, a physically dynamic pirate whose cunning drives much of the narrative. His casting follows his acclaimed performance as Holston Becker in Apple TV+'s Silo, now entering its third season.
Atwell portrays Bess Hawkins, mother to Jim Hawkins, while Huston plays Aaron Graham. Capone appears as Billy Bones, and Sweet steps into the shoes of the young protagonist. The production team includes Sebastian Cardwell, Paul Testar, and others, with directors William McGregor and Jeremy Lovering at the helm.
The series adapts Stevenson's 1883 novel, which follows a boy's quest for treasure amid betrayal and danger. Previous adaptations include Disney's 1950 film and TNT's 1990 TV movie. Fans can expect modern twists alongside faithful storytelling, with a focus on character depth and visual spectacle.
Subscribers will receive exclusive updates on casting announcements, production milestones, and industry insights—perfect for fans seeking in-depth coverage of this adaptation.
Additionally, a poster image from the series is available, though no further details are provided. Viewers can anticipate trailers and promotional materials as the project progresses toward its eventual release.
