season 2 news has touched down.

Created by Dave Filoni, the hit Disney+ Star Wars series premiered in 2026, with Rosario Dawson taking on the role of the titular Jedi. After a positive response to season 1, it was confirmed that is in the works, but there have been few official updates on the release timeline for the new episodes.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season finale, Filoni addresses the status of Ahsoka season 2, confirming that work remains ongoing on the show's sophomore outing. According to Filoni, they're currently hard at work on the visual effects for the new episodes. He explains:

Working on it! It's coming. It's come a long way. Obviously, I'm editing all the episodes at once right now and just deep in visual effects with the team. But I'm really proud of everyone an the work they put in. Lots of things to resolve and figure out, but that's normal.

I'm excited for people to see it. We didn't really get to go out and premiere, in a way, last time. I think that the team's really excited to be out with the fans with this one and see how it goes.

When pushed to reveal a release window for Ashoka season 2, Filoni teases that he knows when the show will return, but that now isn't the right time to announce it. "I'm not saying, but I might know," he says. "Everything needs its moment. Right now, this is Maul's moment."

Crossan then mentions that there's been chatter online about Ahsoka season 2 serving as the show's last outing. Filoni, again, doesn't confirm or deny anything, but makes clear that he knows the show's end point:

You never know. Everything works as planned, and I know where the story goes and where it should tie up. And so, I'm not really worried about that.

But fan speculation is always fun. It's always fun to hear what people think. But we got a lot going on right now in the present. Like a Jedi, you must keep your mind in the here and now. We've got Maul, and we've got Mando happening, so it's very exciting.

Following the climactic , filming on season 2 got underway in the UK in April 2026. Then, the show appeared in a "Coming Soon in 2026" section on Disney+. It's very likely, then, that the Star Wars series will return either this summer or this fall, especially since it's now been over a year since production got underway.

Though , Ahsoka fared generally well with critics. On , the series sports a critics' score of 85%. The audience-driven Popcornmeter is a little more lukewarm, however, at only 64%.

The first season of the series followed Dawson's titular Jedi and her apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), as they investigate a threat to the New Republic. Taking place after the end of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), the show features several characters from the animated Star Wars series, including the season's overarching villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen).

Relatively little plot information has been revealed about Ahsoka season 2, but it has been confirmed that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker in the new episodes, as he did for season 1. The new season will also include Admiral Ackbar, and more characters from Star Wars Rebels are expected to appear. Other season 1 actors like Ivanna Sakhno, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Eman Esfandi are also likely to return.

Though Filoni is clearly focused on promoting Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord at the moment, it seems like the time for Ahsoka is coming. Once later this month and has its own time in the sun, concrete information about Star Wars' small-screen future is sure to follow.
