fans have been confounded by the absence of the characters who launched the series for two full seasons now, and one of the original leads clarifies that this is not her choice.
, the new installment telling the love story between the second-oldest Bridgerton sibling, Benedict (Luke Thompson), and his Cinderella-style love interest Sophie (Yerin Ha). Each season focuses on one of the Bridgertons and their romantic partner, the season 1 couple being Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page).
While Simon has not been seen since the season 1 finale, Daphne occupies a recurring role in season 2, before also disappearing. In a new interview with , Dynevor stated: "I just want to say I have not received a call. And when I get that call, I will be there if I can." She went on to say: "I can only speak for myself — I would always come back if I was asked."
Dynevor and Page were in a different position than the rest of the , as they wouldn't have known for sure that the show was going to be renewed, and thus, as the leads of the freshman season, the writers weren't so definitively setting up future storylines for them. "When the first season came out they didn't know what they needed to put in place," Dynevor said in the interview.
"So we were like the ones that got away I think, in a certain way." The couples who are the central storylines of the next two seasons — Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), and Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) — have continued to regularly appear in the show. Page, at least, has always seemed less interested in returning than Dynevor.
"Rightfully, he said, 'I signed up to do this one lovely story, this closed-ended storyline. I'm good!' I don't blame him for that," she also said. "I think that he was really smart to leave the perfection as the perfection." Page has since landed high-profile roles in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and You, Me & Tuscany, with several more projects in development.
But while Dynevor has since starred in Fair Play and Anniversary, her absence remains an issue for Bridgerton fans. While Daphne lives with her husband and child further away from the rest of the family, it has become less and less excusable for fans, with her missing several weddings and a funeral in the family, especially when Dynevor would seemingly show up for these cameos.

Bridgerton season 5's lead couple has been confirmed to be , likely premiering sometime in the next two years. For whatever reason, they have lost interest in Daphne, even when it would make sense for her to turn up at almost any family gathering. At this point, however, it would at least be a major event if they changed their minds and invited Dynevor back.
