Despite 's popularity, some fans are unaware that the beloved video game franchise would not be possible if it was not for the works of author Andrzej Sapkowski. It was Sapkowski who created both the world of The Witcher and Geralt of Rivia himself, which began its life back in 1986 when the Polish author entered a short story competition.
