Exploring Fallout's Evolution: From Original Game to Exciting Mod Projects

There's no doubt that brought a lot of players into the franchise for the first time, as it made the jump to 3D FPS for the first time, and brought post-apocalyptic America to life in a way that we had never previously seen in video games.

That said, the games that started it all are fantastic in their own right, and if you can get used to the different style, they're an amazing way to explore the roots of all the lore that we love today. Happily, if the way it's built really isn't for you, you might soon have a new way to play through the original that will be much more recognizable to fans of the modern era of Fallout games.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a highlighting the YouTube channel , which is documenting their progress rebuilding the first Fallout game within . Given that the latter is arguably the most beloved game in the series to date, and the most malleable for modders, it's an exciting project to see underway.

Equally, the channel owner is uploading progress reports on the project with remarkable regularity (though they are very short), documenting exactly what they're working on and their approach to getting it all to work. There are some obvious difficulties that could crop up along the way, but it has started in earnest, and the most recent video detailed day 52 of active work on the project.

There were some positive comments underneath the original post (as well as some that doubted a mod of this ambition could be seen through to the end). "A 3D open world adaptation of Fallout 1 and 2 would be amazing!" one comment .

Another, more sceptical, fan added the , "I'm not going to get my hopes up, this exact thing has been started and canceled too many times.

Though we aren't going to get Fallout 5 for a long time yet (with Bethesda largely focused on finally getting into the hands of players), it's still a pretty good time to be a fan. The modding community continues to astound for the older games, while the excellent Prime Video adaptation gave us a look at the franchise in a whole new medium.

At the same time, rumors of a Fallout 3 remaster continue to swirl, and if it were to get the Oblivion treatment, that would certainly plug the worst of the wait time for the sequel.
