Warning: Contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4!The connections between and the original Netflix Daredevil series continue to intensify. After Marvel Studios decided to keep Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Born Again was the first step in fully reintegrating the multiple seasons and shows from Marvel TV.

The current Disney+ series has brought back plenty of familiar faces, and more are coming, with Jessica Jones still to come in season 2 and . And while Born Again season 2, episode 4's ending might mean the in this story, the episode is also responsible for two other original Daredevil stars appearing.

There are instances in "Gloves Off" where Matt has flashbacks to his childhood. We see him and his father, Jack Murdock, and they'll look familiar to fans of the original series. Daredevil actors Skylar Gaertner and John Patrick Hayden are seen on screen briefly as part of these memories.

Born Again season 2, episode 4 is the first time we've seen their versions of young Matt and Jack since Daredevil season 3. And as exciting as it is to see them again, the actors weren't directly involved in the Marvel Studios production.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 4's Young Matt & Jack Murdock Scenes Use Recycled Footage

The flashbacks to Matt's childhood are done by reusing footage from the original Daredevil series. That is why Skylar Gaertner and John Patrick Hayden's appearances have not changed, as these scenes were filmed years before and included in the Netflix-Marvel TV production, making them able to be reused for .

There are three separate flashes of Gaertner's young Matt. The shot of him reading at a table is from Daredevil season 1, episode 2, "Cut Man." The moments of him sitting in Clinton Church and a close-up of him looking up are taken from Daredevil season 3, episode 2, "Please," which was the last time he was shown in this church as a kid.

The lone shot of Hayden's Jack Murdock is also pulled from "Cut Man," from a scene where he is preparing for what proves to be his final fight in the ring and is told to lose to Carl Creel on purpose. The scene is used to emphasize how some of Matt's last memories of his father are from Fogwell's Gym, where Mayor Fisk will fight later that day.

While all of these scenes are pulled directly from Daredevil, Marvel Studios did make some slight adjustments. The color grading has been altered, while even the shot's frame has been cropped a bit. See some comparisons below:

Showing Skylar Gaertner and John Patrick Hayden's scenes from Daredevil in Born Again is a great piece of connective tissue between the two shows. It would have been quite easy for Marvel Studios not to include scenes from the show it didn't produce (and largely ignored for years).

Even if they wanted to insert some shots of young Matt, reusing footage from the original series wasn't the only option. Born Again season 1 notably cast a new actor to play a younger version of the hero for a short flashback. Marvel could've brought Eli D Goss back to film another scene if they didn't want to use Daredevil scenes and directly show audiences scenes from the original series.

By doing just that, Born Again season 2, episode 4 has become even more celebrated. Fans of the original series spent years campaigning for Marvel Studios to #SaveDaredevil. While getting the actors back to explore new storylines has been great, including the original footage just affirms that everything and everyone from the previous seasons is firmly part of the MCU mythology.

Perhaps this could lead to Hayden returning to film new scenes as Jack Murdock in season 3, while Gaertner could return if any teenage Matt scenes are needed in future seasons. Furthermore, it opens the door to Daredevil: Born Again including more of these types of flashbacks and pointing more people to go back and check out Daredevil if they haven't already.
