Spoilers for The Pitt season 2.

season 3 is set to arrive in January 2027, but the time jump for the characters won't be quite so long, with the next season of the hit medical drama taking place four months , so let's see who is going to be working the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's ER when it starts getting chilly in the ambulance bay.

Most of the ensemble cast who you would expect to be returning will be back, but the end of season 2 certainly left some characters' fates up in the air. Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill has revealed some names of who will be , but has been coy with a few others, leaving something for fans to chew on until January.

Noah Wyle As Michael "Robby" Robinavitch

Despite his ominous comments throughout season 2 and his motorcycle sabbatical that is clearly a cry for help, Robby is set to return in The Pitt season 3 (via ). It wouldn't really be The Pitt without its lead character, though, as executive producer, Noah Wyle could still be involved with the show even if his character isn't.

Don't expect Robby to come back to the hospital having found himself and gained a new lease on life. According to Gemmill, Robby doesn't come back to the Pitt right away after his vacation, and he'll have been away longer than three months when he's back in the hospital in episode 1. Also, to nip speculation in the bud, Gemmill says Robby is not fostering Baby Jane Doe.

Like Robby, The Pitt would just feel hollow without Katherine LaNasa's Emmy-winning performance as Dana Evans. LaNasas will be back for The Pitt season 3, and despite everything we know about the charge nurse, it still feels like there are many layers to explore (via ).

Sepideh Moafi As Baran Al-Hashimi

Baran Al-Hashimi will be returning for The Pitt season 3, which might come as a surprise considering the last time we saw her, she was breaking down in her car, seemingly coming to terms with the fact that Robby will not allow her to work until her seizure disorder is managed.

Gemmell told that they would in The Pitt season 3, confirming that Sepideh Moafi would be returning. Maybe Al-Hashimi's suggestion about having two attendings will be her opportunity to work alongside Robby.

Ayesha Harris As Parker Ellis

Night shift senior resident Dr. Parker Ellis is moving to the day shift, and Ayesha Harris is moving from a recurring cast member to the main cast. It's been a joy whenever the smooth-talking, ultra-calm, ultra-cool Dr. Ellis has shown up, and it looks like she'll be moving to the day shift. Now we can get a good look at how the .

It seemed like Victoria Javadi could be on her way out for most of The Pitt season 2, but a comment from Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) inspired her to follow a new path in emergency psychiatry. Gemmell says that this move will keep her embedded in the emergency department going forward. Let's see what her over-involved parents think about that.

Patrick Ball As Frank Langdon

Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) with a confused look in The Pitt season 2 Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) in The Pitt season 2

Dr. Frank Langdon has come a long way since season 1, and he still has a long way to go. Thankfully, we'll get to see how sobriety is treating him four months from now when Patrick Ball returns for The Pitt season 3. Langdon spent his first day back walking on eggshells, so four months from now, we might get to see him returning as the confident doctor we saw for most of season 1.

Fionna Dourif As Cassie McKay

Fionna Dourif will return in The Pitt season 3 as Dr. Cassie McKay. McKay, time and time again, proves that she might be one of the most competent doctors in the ER and, far and away, one of the most mature. She should be rising fast in the ER and could have an even more senior position in four months.

Taylor Dearden As Mel King

Taylor Dearden, who plays Dr. Mel King, will also be back for The Pitt season 3. Season 2 finds Mel realizing her sister, Becca King (Tal Anderson), is becoming more independent, calling into question Mel's own decisions about her personal life. Season 3 could explore this more and also reveal what happened after .

Isa Briones As Trinity Santos

Everyone's favorite curmudgeonly resident, Trinity Santos, will be back for The Pitt season 3. Isa Briones' character has become just a degree or two warmer this season and has even struck up a few friendships that might grow stronger in season 3. Santos and Langdon still haven't made up, so their relationship will be something to keep an eye on in the future.

Gerran Howell As Dennis Whitaker

Dr. Dennis Whitaker will be back for The Pitt season 3 and will likely continue to mature and gain confidence in his work and in his personal life. Gerran Howell's "huckleberry" hops into a truck with the wife of a deceased patient he's been "helping" to Robby's mild displeasure, so we'll see where that relationship goes in a few months.
