season 2 has been unveiled.
A new image from has revealed Ser Duncan the Tall's return as production on the Game of Thrones spinoff continues. The spinoff series, which takes place almost a century before the events of the original show, follows Duncan the Tall, otherwise known as Dunk, and his squire Aegon Targaryen, or Egg, as they travel Westeros. Season 1 earned critical praise, with season 2 confirmed before it aired. Production on the upcoming episodes began in December 2026.
Now, photographer has posted two images of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, which is currently filming in Juncalillo, Spain. Drezinski, who is a professional photographer, said production is currently underway in Juncalillo, Spain, filming not far from where he lives. Using a long-range lens, he managed to snap photos of the production. The images show Peter Claffey as Dunk with long hair on horseback, confirming a major physical transformation for his character in the next chapter of the series.
with Dunk and Egg leaving Ashford, the protagonist officially taking the Targaryen prince on as his squire. The series' focus on knighthood and the honor that Dunk has, even as a Hedge Knight, comes full circle in his taking the child under his wing. However, Maekar Targaryen has no idea he's left them, though it's unclear if he'll come back anytime soon. Season 2 will be based on the second of George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series, titled The Sworn Sword.
Given Dunk's new look in season 2, it seems quite some time will have passed between when the pair began adventuring on their own and when the new story will pick up. Showrunner Ira Parker previously confirmed the duo's next big location will be Dorne, laying the groundwork for a continued faithful adaptation to the source material. Dunk and Egg appear to be the only returning as of writing, with Drezinski's photos seemingly confirming a major focus on them alone.
The image also confirms the ongoing production of the series, which is set to be released on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. Although a more concrete release window has yet to be revealed, the show is likely going to come back early next year, given its smaller, six-episode count and the likelihood that, given the time frame, season 2 is almost done filming. Long-haired Dunk is a good indicator of a time jump, though just how long that jump will be remains to be seen.
For now, these new images of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 are a perfect concentration of hype for the upcoming episodes, with the show promising plenty of important moments between Dunk and Egg. The imagery of Dunk on horseback reflects how big a journey the pair will be on this time, indicative of how their quest in Dorne will be an exciting new piece of their ongoing journey together.
