Citadel Season 2 Changes The Game For The Prime Video Series
Citadel season 2 is completely different from the Prime Video spy thriller series' first season for many reasons. The first is directly tied to its release. While season 1 followed a weekly format, all seven episodes of Citadel season 2 dropped on Prime Video this Wednesday, May 6. Prime Video is not known to have its biggest shows as binge releases, and given how Citadel season 1 reportedly had a budget of around $300 million, the expensive production's shift in release format is of note.
The changes don't stop there, as Citadel season 1 ended with Madden's Mason Kane and Chopra Jonas' Nadia Sinh with their memories returned, which revealed that Mason betrayed Citadel, the show's main spy organization, to save his family. In season 2, Stanley Tucci's Bernard Orlick assembles a new team, with Mason and Nadia in tow, to tackle a dangerous man with mind-control technology. That keeps in line with season 1's memory loss plot, but branches the show into a fresh storyline.
Citadel's Future Is Up In The Air After The Spy Thriller Series' Return
Watching Citadel season 2's seven episodes as soon as possible could help keep the Prime Video spy series alive. That is due to how Citadel's streaming numbers should prove crucial to the show's future. Citadel was renewed for season 2 on March 14, 2026, a little over a month before the spy thriller series premiered on Prime Video. That showed that the streamer was confident in one of the most expensive TV shows in history. However, the same did not happen this year.

Prime Video did not renew Citadel for season 3 before the show's sophomore season arrived. As such, it seems like the message is clear, with Prime Video wanting to see if Citadel brings enough viewership to warrant the streamer's continued bet on the pricey series. With a globe-trotting story, new additions to the cast — Jack Reynor, Rahul Kohli, Matt Berry, and Gabriel Leone are some of the stars who have joined the show — and impressive action sequences and visuals, Citadel season 2 should offer viewers plenty of excitement. It remains to be seen if that is enough for a renewal.
