After becoming one of 2026's horror hits, is officially moving forward.

The first film, helmed by Werewolves Within's Josh Ruben, centered on Ally McCabe, part of a jewelry company's marketing team who, after being mistaken as being a romantic partner with her coworker, Jay Simmonds, finds themselves targeted by the titular serial killer who hunts couples on Valentine's Day. Led by Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, from critics and was a modest box office success, grossing over $33 million against its $18 million production budget.

Just over a year after the first film came out, Variety now reports that Heart Eyes 2 has landed an official release window. The horror sequel, which is now going to be released by Paramount Pictures after the first was distributed by Sony Pictures, is set to hit theaters on February 11, 2028. The film will also see Josh Ruben return to direct and co-write the script with Darcy Fowler, on a story from original co-writers and Freaky pair Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy.

In the lead up to the film's release, Ruben had previously teased that there was the sequel, and confirmed his own interest in being onboard with that. There was also a report back in January 2026 that Ruben had quietly signed a deal to return for the new film, and that a script was already completed, albeit no real details on who was involved in the writing process.

Now, the confirmation of Heart Eyes 2 coming out in February 2028 raises a host of new questions and points of curiosity for the sequel. For starters, it's currently unclear if Sony will be involved in the next film, as current reports only indicate Paramount will co-produce and co-finance the sequel after being the international distributor on the first internationally through Republic Pictures.

The primary production company, Spyglass Media Group, has been collaborating with both Paramount and Sony over the past few years on the recent Scream sequels and Eli Roth's Thanksgiving, both of which similarly have future installments in development. It also wouldn't be the first horror sequel that Sony has shared the distribution rights on, with split between them and Warner Bros. after New Line Cinema distributed the previous film, Evil Dead Rise.

The other big question going into Heart Eyes 2 is whether Ruben and his creative team are looking to bring Ally and Jay back for the next film, or expand to a new set of characters. The first film ends in a way that largely closed their arcs, with the former successfully proposing to the latter and having returned to medical school, while the three main killers all died thanks to them.

However, with the first slasher comedy also establishing that its met each other through an online chatroom, there's a possibility that Heart Eyes 2 could see a new set of killers targeting Ally and Jay for revenge, while also going on a new string of killings. With just under two years to go until the film's scheduled release, more information may be saved for a later date, but the promise of a sequel could see the original movie get another boost in streaming success on Netflix.
