Netflix has officially revealed the title of its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, , and an exciting production update.
The Scooby-Doo franchise has been around for more than 50 years, spanning multiple animated series, films, and other adaptations. Through the classic characters to a new generation while giving longtime fans a deeper look into how the beloved team formed.
Netflix revealed in a press release that production is officially underway for Scooby-Doo: Origins in Atlanta, Georgia. The series will center on a younger version of Mystery Inc., offering a modern take on how the group first came together.
Set during their final summer at camp, the story follows Shaggy Rogers (Tanner Hagen) and as they get dragged into a scary mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy. The friends believe that the dog (obviously the future Scooby-Doo) may hold the key to solving a supernatural murder, setting off a chain of events that pulls the group into a dark and unsettling investigation.
Joining Shaggy and Daphne are Velma Dinkley (Abby Ryder Fortson) and Freddy Jones (Maxwell Jenkins). Together, the four teenagers begin to unravel a case that puts their courage to the test and exposes deeply buried secrets. The tone of the series is reportedly expected to be very suspenseful and character-driven while still honoring the campy spirit that has defined the Scooby-Doo franchise for decades. Paul Walter Hauser has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role at the time of this article's publication.
Behind the scenes, the show is led by writers and showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, known for their work on series like Everything Sucks! and High Fidelity.
