What Happened In One Piece Episode 1156?
In , “The Long-sought Elbaph! The Big Reunion Banquet”, following a brief flashback to the Little Garden arc, Oimo and Kashii revealed that they were the ones who got Dorry and Brogy to leave Little Garden, if only because they couldn’t have a proper duel without weapons, and they started helping Shanks while getting new ones. Nami couldn’t believe Dorry and Brogy wanted to continue their duel, but no one else seemed to mind, and Luffy kicked off another party on the trip to Elbaph.
Meanwhile, Shanks finally tracked Bartolomeo down after he burned Shanks’ flag on Gartel Island and beat up him and his crew for it. Bartolomeo begged for mercy, so Shanks offered to spare him if he fed a deadly poison to Luffy within a month; Bartolomeo refused to betray Luffy and drank the poison himself, but the poison turned out to be fake as part of a test. Shanks seemed to let Bartolomeo go, but unfortunately, they still couldn’t let the disrespect slide, and Yasopp sank the Barto Club in an explosion.

As that was happening, Blackbeard returned to Pirate Island and was furious to learn that his crew had let Koby and Moria escape, but he calmed down when he saw how excited everyone on the island was over Vegapunk’s message and learned that they had captured Garp, who made for a much better bargaining chip than Koby. With all of that and Pudding’s kidnapping taken into account, Blackbeard was confident everything was going his way, and the scene ended with him inviting Caribou onto the island to hear what he had to say.
The next day, after a long night of partying and drinking, the Thousand Sunny had suddenly vanished along with Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper. Everyone else was in a panic as they found no trace of them and could barely remember what had happened the previous night, and the episode ended with Nami, now dressed like a Viking, waking up in a room that appeared to be made of Legos.
One Piece’s Return Is Off To A Phenomenal Start
At its core, One Piece episode #1156 was mostly devoted to setting up the Elbaph arc and providing the last bit of closure for the Egghead arc, making it a somewhat slow episode more about exposition than any sort of action. In that regard, some might find it a bit of a disappointing episode for the anime to return with after such a lengthy hiatus, especially since there are only 12 episodes before the next one.
That being said, not only were the visuals of the new style great to see in motion, but the change in sound design following Hidenori Arai’s retirement has already made way for far more unique sound effects, providing the anime with a massive fix fans have been waiting years for. All in all, One Piece episode #1156 serves as a great preview for what to expect from the Elbaph arc, and hopefully, episode #1157 will be even better.
Be sure to watch One Piece episode #1157 when it premieres on Sunday, April 12.
