Peacock's reboot of a beloved Tom Hanks film featuring Keke Palmer is set for another installment.

The recent year has seen a surge in similar projects, including The Pickup, Good Fortune, Dread Manor, and I Love Boosters, with the latter making its theatrical debut on May 22, following its SXSW premiere. Concurrently, Hanks has participated in Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme and contributed voice work to Toy Story 5, set for release on June 19.

Following the initial broadcast of eight episodes on February 8 during Super Bowl LX—aired on both NBC and Peacock—Deadline announced the renewal of the series. This decision came just two months post-launch, capitalizing on the event's massive viewership. The first season achieved unprecedented milestones, amassing 1.7 billion viewing minutes and securing a spot in Nielsen's U.S. Originals Top 10 for four consecutive weeks. Lisa Katz, President of NBC & Peacock's Scripted Content, expressed enthusiasm about the audience's reception:

“Audiences' affection for The Burbs inspired us to extend their journey in Hinkley Hills, bringing together Keke Palmer and the talented ensemble cast. We're proud of the writers, producers, and crew who revitalized this timeless tale with humor and modern relevance.”

Adapting the 1989 original, the new series retains the small-town setting while introducing fresh narrative elements. Samira Fisher, portrayed by Keke Palmer, relocates to Hinkley Hills with her husband Rob, unraveling mysteries tied to their new neighbors. Joining her are Lynn Gardner, Dana Richards, and Tod Mann, each contributing to the unfolding intrigue. The season concludes with a dramatic cliffhanger, hinting at future developments. Creator Celeste Hughey revealed plans for a fully mapped-out second season, emphasizing continued character exploration.

Critically, The Burbs maintains strong approval ratings, holding a 78% "Certified Fresh" score from critics and 68% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes—outperforming Hanks' original film.
