I could play games until the end of time. Capcom nails the action-adventure feel so consistently, and it's been around so long that alongside each other for decades.

Now, thanks to newly leaked info on , we have a sense of how Resident Evil Zero could play out once it finally arrives in remake form. So far, fans are extremely hyped, as there's one major change that could fundamentally alter how people engage with the game, while also preserving the feel of the original.

Based on leaked info from the Capcom ID network, co-op coding was spotted for the Resident Evil Zero remake. The speculation is that Resident Evil Zero will feature a full co-op system allowing for online play, which is probably going to get a lot of people reaching for their pitchforks.

For those of you who aren't aware, Resident Evil Zero has an interesting system that allows you to swap between two core protagonists: Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. While this mechanic was somewhat polarizing at the time, fans eventually grew to love Zero as a beloved entry, and worked around the item-swapping limitations that Zero introduced with this new mechanic.

Thankfully, this co-op system doesn't seem to be the only way to interact with the remake, as the original concept of swapping between heroes is still intact, according to the leak. In other words, you can still play the original version of Zero as intended. If this pans out, it could be the best of both worlds.

RE Co-Op Generally Has A Good Track Record

Resident Evil has a long history of allowing co-op, and not just in its spinoff games. Resident Evil 5 is the most notable entry built from the ground up to feature co-op, but Resident Evil Revelations 2 also heavily incorporated co-op mechanics, including asymmetric player abilities.

While it's not the core focus of the traditional survival horror series, co-op can bring a lot to the table, especially if you're playing it with other series fans. That said, making it optional is the best choice Capcom could make, as forcing it on people would likely create significant pushback.

As far as remakes go, Resident Evil Zero has the chance to be one of the most impactful. Although I still see it as a beloved entry (and replayed it recently), the remake could sand off some of the game's rougher edges. Expect more references and lore drops for the remake universe as well.
