Spoiler warning! This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2.Marvel just answered two questions regarding certain aspects of . The MCU's upcoming fourth Spider-Man movie continues the story of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. No Way Home ended with Peter asking Doctor Strange to conjure a spell that would make the universe forget who he was to prevent the multiverse from collapsing. While he could have tried to remind MJ and Ned who he was, he decided not to in the hopes of keeping them safe.
shows Peter being New York City's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man while also dealing with the effects of his decision. He may be trying to reconnect with MJ, . Meanwhile, crime is still occurring in New York, as Spider-Man is fighting a few villains in the trailer, including Scorpion and a mysterious invisible threat that appears to be controlling people's minds.
Additionally, the trailer also includes connections to New York's more street-level characters, especially those from the Defenders' universe. One sequence features Spidey confronting The Punisher, who hits him with a van, and another features , the villainous ninja organization from Netflix's Marvel shows. There is also a brief scene showing Spider-Man receiving the key to the city, handed to him by the mayor, Sheila Rivera, who was Mayor Wilson Fisk's Chief of Staff in Daredevil: Born Again.
The film's connections to Born Again and the Defenders' universe raise two important questions: Why is Fisk no longer the mayor, and where is Daredevil? Fortunately, Marvel just answered those questions in .
Daredevil Isn't In Spider-Man: Brand New Day Because He's In Jail
Arguably, the most shocking moment of Born Again's season 2 finale happened during Karen Page's trial. While Fisk was testifying, Matt questioned him about the Northern Star, the ship that sank in the first episode, which Fisk was using to illegally bring weapons into the city. Since Buck killed the other witness who was on the ship, the final witness was Daredevil, who was on the ship. To prove Fisk's crimes, Matt reveals he is Daredevil, and says he is willing to testify.
Since he admitted to being the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, he is arrested. The season ends with him in jail, answering why he won't be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Unless he escapes from jail, which doesn't seem like something Matt would do, Daredevil likely won't be fighting crime against Spider-Man.
However, there is a scene in the trailer, showing Spider-Man fighting The Hand in a prison. Perhaps The Hand broke into Matt's prison to try to kill him, and Spidey has to stop them. Still, Charlie Cox isn't expected to be in the film, so his character may still be in jail until .
Wilson Fisk Resigned As Mayor Of New York City
After Fisk became mayor of New York City and began enacting his anti-vigilante policies, it did raise questions about how other New York heroes, like Spider-Man, would be affected. The trailer for Brand New Day revealed that Fisk would no longer be the mayor during this movie, suggesting that would see him no longer being the mayor. That's precisely what happened in the finale.

After his crimes were exposed by Matt during Karen's trial, the attorney general offers Fisk a deal where he could avoid jail time if he resigns as mayor and leaves New York. Fisk is initially reluctant, and brutally fights several of the protesters who enter the courthouse. However, he eventually agrees after Matt convinces him, and the season ends with him on a beach somewhere.
While it does seem odd that Fisk gets to avoid any legal consequences for his crimes and the violence he committed in the courthouse, he is exiled from the city he loves, and seemingly alone to boot. Hopefully, Sheila can fix much of the damage that Fisk did, and she's already starting by celebrating heroes, like Spider-Man, again. Peter won't be dealing with Fisk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but that doesn't mean New York has seen the last of the Kingpin of Crime.
