When the nerd-centric comedy debuted in 2007, no one could have predicted how big the comedy would be. A decade into its run, Chuck Lorre expanded the franchise with Young Sheldon, which ended in 2026. Now, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage continues the universe on the broadcaster during the on CBS. Later this year, however, The Big Bang Theory will get another offshoot, with its very first sequel series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
Seven years after , the show remains very popular, thanks to it constantly being in syndication and availability on streaming. This helps lift Stuart Fails to Save the Universe's profile, as the franchise expands in the modern era. Kevin Sussman's comic book store owner from the flagship returns as the titular character, and he's joined by Brian Posehn as Bert, Lauren Lapkus as Denise, and John Ross Bowie as Barry.
During the Stuart Fails to Save the Universe panel at CCXP Mexico, the first official images for the show has been released. They feature the main four characters in what appears to be an adventure throughout the multiverse, as they attempt to save it. It's also worth noting that in a couple of them, Stuart is carrying a device, which is likely the gadget that was "built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon" that he accidentally broke. The majority of the sets in the aforementioned images are new to The Big Bang Theory franchise, so it's difficult to decipher what exactly is going on in them. It's also worth noting that the project looks very different compared to the flagship, and it's primarily because, instead of filming in a studio, just like the original show, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe actually shot on various sets. They were allowed to do this, because the HBO Max project is a single-camera comedy rather than a multi-cam, like The Big Bang Theory and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. This also means that there won't be live laughter included in its run.
However, any fan of The Big Bang Theory would recognize the return of the comic book store in one of the official stills. Granted that it still looks a little different because of the lighting and the angle of the camera, but the walls and the racks of comic books in front of Bert and Barry give it away. It makes sense that despite jumping through various universes, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will have its base in Stuart's establishment, as it allows the show to establish itself as a series within The Big Bang Theory universe.

Unfortunately for network TV, to HBO Max, which means that those who would want to check it out will have to access the platform. Considering the change in broadcasters, the series will also have fewer episodes than The Big Bang Theory. Regardless, at least a non-period spinoff of the franchise is coming. It may not have any of the Pasadena gang members as series regulars, but these images tease an exciting new direction for the franchise.
