Three years after being announced that it was in development, gets a promising update.
The Mexico-set spinoff of Prime Video's hit franchise is being written by Blue Beetle's Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke aboard the project as well. A previous revealed that it will be set after the events of The Boys season 5 and there is potential for characters from the original series to appear in the spinoff.
In an interview with , Kripke shared that a draft of The Boys: Mexico pilot episode has been delivered to Amazon, whose reaction was positive, and now their notes are being incorporated for revisions. The Boys showrunner expects that Dunnet-Alcocer is now working on another draft and is hopeful about the spinoff's future. Check out his comments below:
Yeah. They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon. Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who is the writer, is so smart and good. He'll do, I'm sure, another draft. But it feels like...who the hell knows? You can never predict this stuff, but we're hopeful.
Kripke's latest update comes less than 24 hours before debuts with a two-episode premiere on Prime Video. This is the show's final season, the events of which will impact The Boys: Mexico's story, since the spinoff is supposed to be set after season 5. What happens to Homelander and Vought has the potential to transform the larger world for supes, setting the stage for the franchise's show set outside the United States.
The Boys: Mexico is not the only spinoff in the works, as the has wrapped filming and is expected to be released on Prime Video in 2027. Vought Rising takes place in the 1950s, with Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash returning as Stormfront, with a story that will reveal more about the origins of the titular corporation and the rise of supes. There is also the potential for the spinoff Gen V to continue with season 3, although it has not been officially renewed yet.
