's days are numbered as the show's creator and its star Zendaya reveal its fate.
The high-school drama turned dystopian mania, Euphoria, was a major success for HBO and was the second-most-watched series since 2004, following closely behind Game of Thrones. The series has received 25 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and has won nine, including multiple wins for its leading star, Zendaya.
In an interview with , Euphoria's creator Sam Levinson revealed exactly what plans there are for the future of the series, if any. Fans have waited four years for its third season, and are already mourning the series before season 3 has even been released. Unfortunately, Zendaya revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that the third season is the end by stating, "closure is coming." Levinson has also dashed any hopes for more seasons during his interview:
"I write every season like it’s the last. If inspiration strikes and I have an idea, then I’ll talk to HBO. If it makes sense, it makes sense. But it’s such a long shoot, and we put so much into it, from every department — costumes, production design, editorial, cinematography. We just want to get this season right. So if this is it, great. If there’s more …"
When asked if the door is open, Levinson stated, "I don’t know. I mean, I’m not … As of right now, all I want to do is hang out with my wife and kids and read some Elmore Leonard and watch Mrs. Miniver again." So it looks like the third season of Euphoria is well and truly the final season, with in sight.
Season 3 has been one of the messiest behind-the-scenes, with series' composer, Labrinth, walking away from the entire project after devoting himself to the first two seasons. Three weeks ago on Instagram, and has since doubled down on that statement after posting an Instagram story stating:
"People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove what ever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me, but I don't let people treat me like s**t."
This statement comes after it was announced that world-renowned composer Hans Zimmer would be the only one whose music is featured in the show's apparent third and final season, despite achieving major success with its previous soundtracks completely handled by Labrinth. It's unclear what has happened behind the scenes, but Labrinth has made it apparent that he and Levinson are not on the same page.
