is ready for its series finale, and among all the chaos that Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) will have to deal with, the show’s most divisive character will be introduced. Good Omens is one of to date, but it has also become one of its most underrated works. Despite being based on a successful novel and having one of the best casts in fantasy TV, Good Omens has mostly flown under the radar, but it has succeeded with critics and its loyal audience.

Good Omens has succeeded thanks to its mix of fantasy, drama, and religious elements, but without being a religious show, and its biggest strength by far is the chemistry between Sheen and Tennant. on a major cliffhanger that will be resolved in the show's third and final season, but there’s a twist. is just one, 90-minute-long episode, which will not only address the mysteries left by season 2 but will also introduce the show’s most divisive character: Jesus.

As seen in the , the final episode will introduce Jesus (Bilal Hasna), who, to everyone’s surprise, escaped from Heaven and ended up on Earth, so everyone is now looking for him. Jesus’ introduction in Good Omens season 3 makes sense as its theme is the Second Coming, which is the return of Jesus to Earth, though it won’t exactly go as planned. This is quite fitting with Good Omens, which hasn’t been safe from controversy since season 1.

Prime Video’s Good Omens Has A History Of Religious Controversy

Of course, being a fantasy show with many religious themes and elements, Good Omens was never going to be safe from controversy. Season 1 saw Aziraphale and Crowley teaming up to stop the coming of the Antichrist and thus Armageddon, with the Antichrist being a young boy who was accidentally placed in the wrong family. Season 1 also introduced God, though just through voiceover, with Frances McDormand playing the part.

Season 2 followed Aziraphale and Crowley working together again, now to help Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm), who appeared unexpectedly at Aziraphale’s bookstore, completely naked and with his memories wiped – and to further complicate everything, both Heaven and Hell were looking for him. Now, Good Omens is about to introduce Jesus, and it won’t be surprising if that also sparks some controversy.

In 2019, the religious organization Return to Order posted a petition (originally mistakenly addressed to Netflix instead of Prime Video) to due to its portrayal of “devils” and “Satanists” as “normal and even good” and for mocking “God’s wisdom” by having the character voiced by a woman. No matter how Jesus is portrayed in Good Omens season 3, it will most likely spark some controversy and backlash to some extent.

The Good Omens Finale Will Introduce Jesus As A Character

The controversy around Good Omens season 3’s introduction of Jesus will not be so much about the presence of the character but how he will be portrayed. At the time of writing, it’s unclear what Jesus’ role will be in Good Omens season 3 beyond his role in The Second Coming (which, of course, might go through some changes to fit the show), but both Heaven and Hell will be going after him.

Jesus will surely be a key character in Good Omens’ final episode, just like Adam/the Antichrist was in the first season, so there’s a big possibility that some people won’t be on board with what the show does with Jesus. However, whatever controversy arises around Good Omens’ introduction of Jesus, it most likely won’t impact the final episode’s quality and story, just like the previous controversies didn’t taint the show.

Good Omens has been very clear with its tone and themes from the beginning, so with that in mind, it’s not surprising that season 3 is going as far as covering the Second Coming and introducing Jesus. It’s to be seen what Jesus will do and how he will impact Aziraphale and Crowley’s story, as well as how the latter pair manages the Second Coming and more.
