The future of Steve Carell's latest comedy Rooster has been confirmed. Following its debut of five episodes, HBO announced its continuation for a second season. The show currently leads as the most-watched new HBO comedy in a decade, attracting 5.8 million average viewers per episode during its initial run.

Beyond strong viewership numbers, Rooster earned an impressive 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—surpassing the 71% critic score from Carell's The Office and maintaining an overall 81% average across the series.

Co-showrunner Bill Lawrence shared his appreciation for Warner Bros. Television and HBO, calling the project a "career highlight" for himself and Carell. He expressed gratitude to the production team, noting the collaborative effort that made the show possible.

Warner Bros. Television's Creative Affairs president Clancy Collins praised the series as "richly deserved," highlighting Lawrence and co-showrunner Matt Tarses' exceptional talent. The creative duo continues to deliver heartfelt storytelling through their work with HBO and Doozer.

Lawrence, known for creating Scrubs (now revived on ABC) and co-creating another acclaimed series returning this summer, brought his signature style to Rooster. The show features Zach Braff directing two episodes.

Looking ahead to season two, HBO programming executive Amy Gravitt expressed anticipation for the upcoming storyline set after the fall season's events. The series' unique setting at Ludlow College forms the backdrop for Carell's character's journey alongside his daughter Katie.

Supporting Carell are talented actors Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. His acting career began as a correspondent on The Daily Show before starring in The Office, followed by roles in animated films and major motion pictures.

Currently, Carell enjoys success with multiple series including Angie Tribeca, The Morning Show, Space Force, and The Four Seasons. With five episodes remaining in the inaugural season, the series concludes May 10.

Rooster airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on HBO.
