War, tariffs, blockades and the cost of living crisis are enough to make us all feel like the world is going to hell in a hand basket. It seems like escaping, even for moments at a time, into the world of video games has never been more important than it is now. Unfortunately, the cost of everything is affecting our gaming too and even the mighty are feeling the squeeze. With the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 set to rise, how is Nintendo putting a positive spin on things?
Well, the inevitable rise in prices is here to stay sadly. Buying a PS5 today costs more than it did at launch, which feels bizarre, but the rising cost of hardware, components and precious minerals are affecting all the big guns, including Nintendo. With gamers getting hit in the pockets, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke at an about plans to offset the price hikes by giving gamers more value for their hard-earned cash.
With Furukawa now promising to bolster the Nintendo gaming library significantly to bring more value to the platform, it's not hard to figure out how Nintendo will achieve that. The quickest way to increase a gaming library is through remakes, remasters and re-releases of existing titles. This all but confirms what all Nintendo 64 fans have been clamoring for.... The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a remake!
It's really starting to feel that 2026 is the year of Zelda. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, we've already seen . We also have . But they all pale in comparison to confirmed leaks that . There's never been a better time to be a fan of Link and his pointy hat.

We've seen , so hopefully Nintendo have taken note and plan to blow player expectations out of the water. Taking Epona for a gallop across Hyrule Field with the sun beaming down and Hyrule Castle peeking out from the horizon sounds like a perfect way to round out 2026.

If Nintendo president Furukawa sticks to his promise, we could be looking forward to a cavalcade of classics reimagined on the Switch 2. Games like StarFox 64, Mario 64, Perfect Dark or maybe even Goldeneye might see new love on modern hardware. A new generation getting to play fresh versions of my childhood classics sounds almost too good to be true. Don't let us down Nintendo, remember... "A childish mind will turn to noble ambition."
