The latest update about the PlayStation 6 comes courtesy of 's financial reports for the 2026 fiscal year, released in an earnings announcement on Friday, May 8. Along with details about the most recent sales for the PlayStation 5, the report addressed a question about how the increased cost of components could affect the PS6.

In the financial call, Sony president and CEO Hiroki Totoki shared that Sony has "not yet decided on what timing [it] will launch the new console, or at what prices," as reported by . Totoki noted that component costs are expected to remain high in the 2026 fiscal year, meaning that Sony will need to "really observe and follow the situation."

That may not simply mean waiting out the market or selling the console at a significantly higher cost. Totoki explains that Sony "would like to think about various simulations, including changing business models to come up with the best solution and strategy."
