20 years ago, fans around the world got the game they'd been waiting for ever since rolling credits on Ocarina of Time in 1998. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess landed on GameCube and Wii back in 2006, and sent players on Link's biggest and most cinematic quest to date.
It's hard to overstate just how excited fans were for Twilight Princess. After the experimental Majora's Mask and the Wind Waker, here at last was a true to the mighty Ocarina of Time. Personally, it's far from my favorite Zelda adventure, but I understand why so many put it at the top of their list. And even a Zelda game I don't rush to replay too often is still an incredible game.
Yes, it's been a while since I've played through Twilight Princess, but an upcoming unofficial re-release is guaranteed to draw me back in for another adventure with Link and Midna.
If you've been keeping your ear to the ground, you'll probably know that an unofficial PC port of Twilight Princess is on the way, and it looks seriously impressive. It's called , and while it doesn't have a release date yet, we did recently get a new trailer outlining all the new features, which you can check out below.
The new features included in Courage Reborn are:
- Widescreen
- Unlocked resolution
- Unlocked framerate
- Mobile support
- Homebrew (able to run on hacked Switch consoles)
- Mod support
- Texture packs
- Quality of life changes
- Mouse/gyro aiming
- In-game menus
As you can see, it's shaping up to be a pretty substantial package. This is doubly impressive when you consider Twilight Princess was only 100% decompiled as of four months ago. Modders really are out there doing the lord's work.

Of all the changes, I'm most excited by the new menu filled with handy gameplay options. The ability to change the speed Link walks when wearing the Iron Boots might single-handedly turn Twilight Princess into my favorite Zelda game. And I'm super excited to see what modders come up with, especially after a few years. There are already some out there that are basically entirely new games, so just imagine new adventures in the world of Twilight Princess.
While it would be nice if Nintendo would finally officially to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library, or even re-release Twilight Princess HD for Switch and Switch 2, there's no sign of that happening anytime soon. And if Nintendo aren't going to do it, it'd be rude not to let someone else give Twilight Princess the comprehensive re-release we've all been waiting for, wouldn't it?
